Mildred Clark was originally from Kansas City, Kansas; she was one of the best female gospel vocalists ever, especially on her Savoy releases. She recorded on Savoy, Song Bird, Acquarian, Wajji, ABC/Dunhill/Peacock and Heat Records. She died on April 21st, 2007, having battled cancer for several years. The group were originally known as The Kansas City Melodyaires, without any of Mildred's daughters and with some male group members, the group then became a female group with Mildred, Genetter Bradley, Lillian Franklin- Bingley and Buelah Gunnels in the 1960's, eventually the group became known as Mildred Clark And The Melody-aires at which time Mildred's daughters Saundra, Barbara and Doll joined her. Barbara eventually became Barbara White, Barbara recorded her own solo album on AIR Records. This album has a very soul/r&b sound on many tracks, the album was recorded in Detroit and produced by Eddie Robinson, himself a gospel singer that liked some of the r&b influences.
