GOSPEL RECORD COMPANY
Gospel was a subsidiary of Savoy records. The label was based in Newark, New Jersey, and operated from approximately 1959 through until 1974; just over 100 lp's were produced. I have only completed the lp discography of this label as www.recordconnexion.nl has already completed the 45 discography for this label. The early gospel releases had a green label and then a purple label; a red label also occurred. Fred Mendelsohn produced many of the lp's while Rev. Lawrence Roberts was involved in their recording- Rev Lawrence Roberts directed many of the gospel releases on Savoy Records for the Angelic Choir and others, while recording his own releases on A.I.R. and New Birth. Among the most prolific artists on Gospel were The Caravans, Jessy Dixon and The Imperial Gospel Singers. A point for you to remember, I look at the front and back cover of albums, as well as on the album label to double check the title of the album and also to reconfirm the name of the singer or group matches the details on the front cover.
